Plankton Portal Talk
Shrimp zombie apocalypse! They must be moulted skins.
Party time! What's the "ectoplasm" floating across the screen?
Also 3 #copepod in the top right quarter. Busy!
Now that is beautiful.
See if you can spot the #copepod!
What is this straw-like stuff, some kind of algae?
Darth Vader's helmet! #Thimble?
Definitely some #behaviour going on there. Do arrow worms mate?
#protist or very small #radiolarian?
Cold water can have that effect.
Baby #solmaris and nice #radiolarian colony!
#rocketship #thimble. Often they don't have tails or they are very hard to see.
It's definitely a #larvacean #house, you can see a larvacean, maybe two, inside.
A #shrimp, I think.
I would go for #cydippid judging by the stripes and no visible lobes.
#Shrimp vs. #copepod
Unusual #larvacean in its #house. I think... never seen one like this before.
Is that a #radiolarian on the left?
That would be my second guess 😃
Interesting object at top centre/right. looks like a 2-tailed larvacean.
I just got this too. That thing in the middle seems to have more structure than the usual large protist. Nice artistic arrangement anyway!
That's a new one. From the "oven glove" at the top I'd guess some kind of #lobate.
#larval #lobate is my guess for this one.
Are those two #doliolid without tails?
Yes, #larvacean, you can make out the head shaped like farfalle pasta and the banded tail.
Long #radiolarian colony and spiky protist(?)
Is this a huge #thimble sipho? Looks like it's swallowed something.
That's what I guessed. Odd one though.
Spectacular double #solmaris.
Punk plankton 😃
#cydippid (?) with long tails.
Odd looking thing on left. Any ideas?
Very out of focus #rocketship #triangle?
It's a #larvacean, viewed from an unusual angle. Some of them have a "bobble" on the end of the tail, the white blob you can see here.
Ceiling #shrimp is watching you!
It's more transparent than a usual shrimp. Could it be a shell from a moulted shrimp?
Over on the left? No, just another #larvacean I'm afraid!
Good, I guessed it was one of those!
Here's a nice example of a #shrimp in escape posture:
It's certainly busy! I see 2, maybe 3 #larvacean, a #copepod, a #thimble (bottom right) and a big #protist.
Lovely #lobate! What are the wispy strands on the right of the image?
I think it's actually a #shrimp. You sometimes see them like this, folded up head to tail. You also have #radiolarian colony at the bottom.
Yes it is, swimming away from the camera. the hammer-shaped head gives it away.
It's an #arrow-worm, slightly sideways-on and out of focus.
Yes, I think as a rule if they are bright in the middle they are protists. Very nice ones though.
It's a #larvacean, curled around so its "nose" is touching its tail.
Any ideas on that unusual object down in the bottom left, next to or attached to a copepod?
#morethanfourtentacles having a bad tentacle day.
I think so...
It's lovely, whatever it is.
Nice clear #shrimp.
Thought for a moment I'd found a #cestida but it's just another #arrow-worm!
I tagged this as a beroida. What are the features that identify it as a fish?
My third #polychaete today. Are those antennae on the (?)front?
Not sure about this one.
Yes, nice one. I think they move by flicking their antennae. Sometimes the camera catches one mid-flick!
Unusual #larvacean and #house
#solmaris. Looks like it's reaching for a worm 😃
A nice little tableau. #copepod, #shrimp and two #larvacean
#larvacean head-on maybe?
#arrowworm? Or a fish about to eat a copepod?
This one stumped me. Looks like Animal from the Muppets.
Found a leaf!
That's a type of #protist. You'll see a lot. No, we are not marking those.
Shrimp, polychaete or beroida? Or something else?
The "peanuts" are small rocketship #thimble. I'm not sure whether the star shape is a protist or a very small #solmaris.
#medusa #fourtentacles with bent tentacle!
You mean the big thing? I'd tag it as a larvacean house.
Odd little star shaped thing on the right. #protist?
#lobate I think...
Giant #medusa #fourtentacles
They are #protist. No, we don't count them.
Yes, #copepod and unidentified blob.
It has the feathery tail like a rocket ship. Never seen one like that though. Nice.
That's a #protist, we aren't counting those. There are 2 copepods in the image too.
Larvacean? I'm not convinced.
That's the satellite dish
Looks like a #fourtentacles but I can only see two.
The one that got away! Nice tail though.
#thimble meets #triangle
Is that a #ctenophore top left?
I think with arrowworms if you see them from above they look straight but from the side they are often curly. This is a side-on shot.
I would say it's a #morethanfourtentacles. Whatever it is there's a tiny larvacean just below it trying to get out of the way 😃
I also see a #thimble dead centre and a #copepod top right. Maybe another larvacean top left but not sure.
#lobate (?) and #copepod with tiny antennae.
Tricky one, but it's a #larvacean curled up with a blob on the end of its tail.
Nice! I've noticed you often see copepods near larvacean houses, maybe they use them for shelter or feed on particles stuck to them?
It's a "pumpkin" style #larvacean house. I think you can just about see the larvacean inside.
Oh I say! #cydippid
#medusa #fourtentacles strutting its stuff.
If blob was a category we'd all be busy!
Just got this image. Notice the two tails streaming out to the right of the "house". Could that actually be a #cydippid ?
I classed this as #medusa #morethanfourtentacles although its tentacles are very orderly like a solmaris.
And a really nice #copepod
Really clear #arrowworm
Call that a house? This is a house! 😃
I didn't classify it as a thalasso, I was just hoping!
Is this a #thalasso ?
The thing at bottom right - is that an early stage of a #corncob sipho?
I think solmarises (solmarae? solmari?) have straighter tentacles.
Small #cydippid ?
#rocketship #thimble minus tail
A lovely big #cydippid !
#larvacean and very nice #larvaceanhouse
I had this as one of my first objects. I think I IDed it as a beroida. I didn't know fish were on the menu.
#doliolid with tail!
#doliolid without tail, or something else?
Actually it does have a tail, it's going out to the left, very faint.
I would class that as a rocket-ship #thimble. They often don't have tails, especially the small ones.
#shrimp in curled-up posture.
An odd one...
Nice clear #corncob
Hey, I got the hairy light bulb too!
#goblet medusa and spiky friend.
Is that a #radiolarian or #protist colony on the left?
#larvacean building an extension to its house.
#thimble maybe, or two? With some protists stuck to it like Mickey Mouse ears!
Gorgeous, looks like a line drawing!
Is it my imagination or is it growing baby thimbles on its tail?
My guess would be #goblet medusa. Shame it's blurry.
I'd say #protists but they are big ones and making a nice formation!
I'd say a #larvacean-house under construction. You can see the #larvacean on the left hand side, curled into a loop.
I got so excited by this I forgot to classify it! Many-tentacled #medusa but the bell is very thin or invisible.
#lobate or #salp ?
Something big with a tail but it doesn't look like a thimble or a triangle.
#beroida I think, but which end is the front?
An interesting one. Very uninhibited 4-tentacled #medusa... with 3 tentacles?
OK. I just found another: APK0000u8s
Another "teardrop", two in one session!
Not sure about this one. I thought it might be a copepod sideways-on but i think it's too big.
I'm saying 4-tentacled #medusa with two retracted. Do they retract them?
Nice 4-tentacled #medusa.
I also classed them as larvacean houses, you can see the tenants! Pretty.
#copepod The smallest I've seen. There are at least 2 in the image. You really have to be alert for these little fellows!
I got the larvacean house at extreme top right but not sure about the two bright things on the left.
Another odd one. A larvacean house?
Haven't seen one like this before. A colony of protists?
Is this a larvacean house?
I just got this too. Looks like a toilet brush!
When plankton go trick-or-treating...
Seriously, how would you classify this?
