Colonial radiolaria form colonies of individuals by extending their cytoplasm to form an anastomosing (interconnected) web of pseudopodia (temporary protrusion for movement or feeding), enclosed within a common gelatinous matrix. They are also hosts to symbiotic algae. Typically within the order Spumellaria.
