Odd round plankters, sometimes with tentacles
-
by Quia
Two of definitely the same type, two more I think are just from different angles or tentacles retracted, and one oddity among oddities. I went through the talk comments since the Mediterranean data went up, these are all the discussed ones.
What should these be classified as, if anything?

Here are some from my collections. I consider them as #protists. They look different but I think most of them may be of the same kind:

As for your last type, I think it may be a bottom view of a R-S (Thimble) like here:

I knew you'd have some more! 😄 They are a bizarre looking bunch. APK0006xls in particular looks like a halfway point between the ones with a single stretched dark spot with tiny tentacles, and 'small protist colony.'

Yes.. and there are some more which are half like another ones.. but I haven't found any crisp as quickly 😕
I'm too busy for such investigation this week! But I'd love to solve that:))

I went through your Protist collection. 😄 Have any other places they might be hiding?
I was looking for dark 'cores' attached to a central bright spot, within a (mostly) circular shell. They split into categories(ages? 😃) rather well. I didn't find any more with obvious appendages, though a couple of the ones with 2-3 cores have some odd lines from the center spot to the outside.

Unfortunately, yes, they can be anywhere (since they are often sharing the frame with some other cool guys who deserve to be collected. Moreover, it wasn't possible to collect more than 1000 images under one collection at the beginning of this project so I was forced to be creating new and new collections until it has been fixed, and I cannot edit them anymore.)
The most probably collections are these ones including those guys are:
- CPKS00002t (Favorites)
- CPKS0000gj (Questions / Answers)
- CPKS00007e (NOTHING COOL HERE)
- CPKS00006j (others)
- CPKS00006g (awesome ones)
- CPKS00006e (weird ones)
But some may be also under CPKS00008t (MEDUSAE) - those ones having appendages..
Ó, check this one! 😃

I need to get back to work and then go to sleep./ Not sure when I get online for a longer time..
Thanks for your input!

I could also use some sleep, searching through more of your collections will have to happen tomorrow. 😃 Though I bet the best place to find more of our odd protist/jellies with appendages is probably classifying more Mediterranean data.

A few more from 'awesome ones' and 'weird ones' and 'questions /answers.' No tentacles on any of these. :\

I have been putting them in a "mystery" collection. Here are the images I have that aren't listed above:

Fixed those for you. 😃 You just need the last bit of the URL to make the links, Talk does the rest automatically. APK0008zl0 APK0007hec APK0007rmf APK00084rc APK0008yaj
I especially like the last one! It fills the gap between the really simple ones we've seen and the bigger clusters.

Thanks for fixing those. Yes, the last image is nice and detailed. I tried taking screen shots of the photos, but I get the entire "Talk" page and not just the image.
