  • shocko61 by shocko61

Hi first time here ,Is this marine snow ? I could not find any organism to match . And some of the images like this one (for Training ) show tiny things that I have trouble spotting even when it is pointed out , will I have to find these things when I am on my own , searching . Also is there anywhere that I can see these creatures and learn a bit about them . Ian Shocko61

Hi Ian, yes this is marine snow. Marine snow are basically discarded organic parts drifting in the water -- they can be discarded larvacean houses, fecal material or other particles that aggregate together. Think of them as dust clumps that occur behind furniture at home! They come from all different origins but do give good information to scientists as to how much carbon and organic material is sinking through the ocean. Could be carbon sequestration happening on a massive scale!
